I’m leaving out a lot. I didn’t get around to posting anything about Puerta del Sol, or the incredible art collection at Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando, or getting intentionally lost and exploring side streets. But here it is, New Year’s Eve, and I’d made a resolution to wrap up my Madrid posts before 2017, so we’re jumping ahead to my last full day in Spain. Don’t want to break a New Year’s resolution before the new year has even begun.
I’d been saving the Museum of Romanticism for last, because it’s the kind of place I love.
The Romantic period in Spain occurred at roughly the same time as the first half of Queen Victoria’s reign in the UK. The museum recreates an upper-middle class mansion of the era. I’ve mentioned before that visiting period recreations is one of my favourite things about travel, and the Museum of Romanticism is an exceptional example of that attraction.
