Checkpoint Charlie — History as a Photo Op

I probably crossed what used to be Checkpoint Charlie dozens of times while I was in Berlin.

No one stopped me at the intersection.  No one asked to see my papers.

Checkpoint 3

There’s a small, open-air display where the border crossing used to be.   Blow-up of pictures and articles tell the story of the partition of Berlin and the history of the Berlin Wall.

Checkpoint 1
The exhibition space contained some segments of the Berlin Wall.  People were using them as backdrops for souvenir photos.
