Another day, another trailer.
Wayward Pines is a 10-episode psychological thriller that starts its run tomorrow, 14 May 2015, on Fox. Its creators say it’s “evocative of the classic hit Twin Peaks,” and others have made reference to Lost. Considering the disappointment that many fans felt about the unresolved endings of those shows, this is not necessarily a good thing.
It’s one of those small-town-with-a-secret stories, which can be a lot of fun in the right hands. (Here’s a quick way to tell if it’s in the wrong hands: If one of the good guys discovers that bad business is going down, and says something like: “Let’s go talk to the sheriff. He’ll tell us what to do,” you’ll know it’s time to bail out, since any idiot would realize that the sheriff has got to be part of the conspiracy. You’ll also know that you’re watching the work of a hack.)
Wayward Pines has an impressive cast. Matt Dillon stars, and Melissa Leo, Terrence Howard, Carla Gugino, Toby Jones, Juliette Lewis, and Charlie Tahan are among the main players. There will also reportedly be a number of surprise cameos.
I’ll be giving this one a try.
