Still in the mood for Bar Food, I had lunch at James Hoban’s, an Irish bar and restaurant just off Dupont Circle, a couple of blocks from where I live.
A big spinach salad w/roasted pears, spiced walnuts, and nice hunks of bleu cheese, served w/a maple balsamic.
I got addicted to Shepherd’s Pie in New Zealand, where it was a staple, while chicken was for special occasions. I’ve had a hard time finding a really good Shepherd’s Pie in the US. This one was fine—the mashed potato crust was v nicely done.
What was less fine was that a extremely generous tip was included in the bill, which the waitress neglected to mention until I questioned it.
