Over the past few years, Laika, the independent production company in Hillsboro, Oregon, has created some of the most exciting and original stop-motion movies ever made. Laika has only released three films in the last five years, but each of them is a gem. If you haven’t seen Coraline, ParaNorman, and The Boxtrolls, you’re missing out on some wonderful stuff. These films are not only funny and beautifully made, they often challenge the viewers’ preconceptions in v unexpected ways.
And now, Laika is offering more than 250 lots of its puppets, models, and props to its avid fans. Heritage Auctions will conduct an auction entitled “The Art of LAIKA” on 12 February 2015, in Beverly Hills.
According to the auction site, a portion of the proceeds will be donated to The Art of Elysium, “a non-profit arts organization that works to make art a catalyst for social change by bringing creativity and inspiration to children, artists, and various populations in need.”
Before the sale, selected auction highlights will be on display in Dallas, New York, and Beverly Hills. There’s no catalogue yet, but the linked Heritage Auctions site contains information on display schedule and the lists some of the items. Here are a few of them:
