Galavant — What a Surprise That Was! (Updated)

Update:   ABC is rebroadcasting the first two episodes of Galavant tonight (Wednesday, 7 January 2015) at 10 PM EST.

I didn’t really expect much from the first two episodes of Galavant, which ran last night on ABC. Boy, was I surprised!  Loved it!  It’s as silly and wonderful as Monty Python or Blackadder.

The music is by eight-time Oscar winner Alan Menken (The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast) and lyricist Glenn Slater (Tangled), but these bawdy song are a long way from Disney. We’re definitely in adult fantasy land here.

Every fairy tale needs a great love song.

That’s Timothy Omundson, from Psych, playing evil King Richard.

The remaining six episodes will be screened over the next three weeks.   You can watch the first two episodes On Demand, or at ABC Go.

Paper Moon — Lunch on 5 January 2015

Yesterday, temperatures in Washington reached the mid-60s.  Today, they’re 30 degrees colder.

Went over to Paper Moon in Georgetown for what was really my first restaurant lunch of 2015.

Pane con Gorgonzola

Pane con Gorgonzola

A perfect starter—Toasted garlic bread with Gorgonzola and cream sauce.

Vitello al Limone

Vitello al Limone

Veal scaloppini with white wine, capers, lemon and butter sauce,  and sides of spaghetti and broccoli.

Paper Moon is one of those reliable restaurants.  No experimentation here—It sticks to the classics, and does them well.  Not the most adventurous dining, but a good way to start the year.
