Willow — Lunch on 19 August 2014

2014 Summer Restaurant Week Extended, Day 2

On the home stretch, now.  I’ll finish the Extended Restaurant Week at three restaurants I’ve enjoyed in the past.  And on Friday, I’ll rest….

First stop is Willow, in the Ballston neighborhood of Arlington, Virginia.

Willow 2014

Love the patio here.  I always seem to wind up sitting next to defense contractors indiscreetly discussing personnel issues and contracts.

Willow starter

Eggplant Parmesan Flatbread

Willow is known for its flatbreads.  This one had grilled eggplant, a basil-ricotta Mascarpone mousse spread, and local tomatoes with Fontina, Pecorino, and Parmesan cheeses.  It’s finger food, like pizza.

Willow Main

Sweet Corn Pancake and BBQ Pork Stack

House-smoked BBQ pork layered with corn and pepper griddle cake and smoked cheddar.  topped with a corn, red pepper and chick pea relish.  The BBQ-Pancake combination worked surprisingly well.

Willow Dessert

Peach Shortcake

Local peaches with raspberry sauce and crème anglaise,  with raspberry whipped cream on top.   I could live on desserts like this.
