2014 Summer Restaurant Week, Day 4
The Oval Room is a stylish restaurant just north of Lafayette Park, a short walk from the White House. It re-opened this month after a million dollar renovation, and it looks sleek and elegant. This was my first visit.
It’s been quite a while since I’ve done the whole artichoke ritual: Steaming the artichoke, then peeling the leaves, dipping them in butter, and scraping the good part between my teeth, and eventually reaching the heart of the artichoke for the good stuff. Most of my more recent artichoke adventures involved salads. These were different–chewy fried baby artichokes with mint and lemon mustard mayonnaise.
The was an excellent main course. Perfectly grilled flat-iron steak, on a bed of purple potato puree. (Say that three times fast).
Exquisite combination of tastes.
The food was excellent and the service was superior.
The Oval Room is part of Ashok Bajaj’s privately held Knightsbridge Restaurant Group, a collection of nine restaurants, including Rasika, Bibiana, and 701 Restaurant, that routinely dominate the Washington “Best Restaurants” list.
