A set of four stained glass windows designed by Henry Holiday will be sold at auction this month in England. Holiday was a prolific artist whose work can be found throughout Britain and the United States. One of his windows is in Westminster Abbey.
Like many Pre-Raphaelite—like many artists in general—Holiday didn’t confine his work to one medium. In addition to designing stained glass works, he was a painter, sculptor, and illustrator. One of his commissions came from Lewis Carroll; Holiday created the wonderful illustrations for The Hunting of the Snark.
The windows up for auction were commissioned by the Chartered Accountants of England and Wales and created in 1898. They were part of the collection of the late Peter Grant, manager of the bands Led Zeppelin, the Yardbirds, and Bad Company,
